Thank you sharing all these wonderful threads. In addition, an excellent travel as well as medical insurance plan can often eradicate those fears that come with traveling abroad. Some sort of medical emergency can rapidly become too expensive and that’s certain to quickly impose a financial weight on the family’s finances. Putting in place the excellent travel insurance package prior to setting off is well worth the time and effort. Thank you

Clarence Page: Why Cosby likes ‘The Obama Show’

Twenty-five years ago NBC took a risk. In late September, the network launched a half-hour situation comedy about a prosperous, well-educated family where the children actually listened to their parents without a lot of wisecracks.

And, oh, by the way, the family also happened to be black. Young people today may have a hard time imagining it, but that was a big deal at the time.

ABC had turned the show down, but NBC, which was lagging in the Nielsen ratings, was a bit more desperate. It won. “The Cosby Show” lasted eight years, five of them as the No. 1 sitcom in the ratings.

The passing of years gives the show’s anniversary special significance as we ponder how much the TV series helped change our times. The program is often credited with enriching the image of the African-American family in the eyes of the world. I think it also deserves credit for reaffirming the value of the traditional American family unit, regardless of race or ethnicity, although with a more equal-partner role for the wife than what was the typical case in 1950s sitcoms.

Heathcliff “Cliff” Huxtable was a doctor, wife Clair Huxtable was a lawyer. Before Cosby brought us the Huxtable family, networks had little interest in reviving the perfectly idealized strong dad/omniscient mom/obedient kids format of “Father Knows Best” or “Leave It to Beaver.” But repackaging those old-school, middle-class family setups with a middle-class black family sent a reassuring social message that subtly grabbed viewers’ hearts: The American Dream was not just for whites only.[READ THE REST]

FB App Tells How Much You’re Worth

Facebook stopped being about keeping up with friends, new and old, a long time ago. In addition to sharing the minute details of your life FB is great for hawking stuff.

Enter the marketing blitz that is VIRAL LOOP.

Adam Penenberg, a contributing writer atFast Company magazine, has developed an iPhone and Facebook App called “Viral Loop” to help raise awareness of his latest book, Viral Loop: From Facebook to Twitter, How Today’s Smartest Businesses Grow Themselves.

We’re sure the book is chock full of interesting tid-bits but we’re still stuck on the FB app that tells you how much you are worth in US $ based on your network of friends and their reach (J’sticks is worth $1568.00).

So, how much are you worth?

Bad Headline: Rap Music Kills Again

Leave it to GAWKER.COM to craft a headline that is sure to get clicks and more importantly play on people’s disdain for rap music, black people and murder.

Rap music: Will it ever stop inspiring America’s youth to commit multiple homicides? Not likely, if the sad case of Richard “Syko Sam” McCluskey is any indication. Because he killed four people.

Calif. horrorcore rapper suspected of killing 4,” says the AP headline. This is technically true, although a more accurate headline might have been “Calif. adolescent without any good hobbies snaps,” or “MYSPACE KILLS.” McCroskey, a 20 year-old kid from California, is suspected of killing four people in Virginia—including a pastor and a college professor. He apparently went to visit the pastor’s daughter after meeting her on Myspace. [READ THE REST HERE]

Firstly, this “rapper” is an unknown and was part of a scene that is so far removed from what the mainstreams considers to be real rap music.

Gawker, -1000 points for missing the mark.

The quarter billion-dollared Southern Poverty Law Center, billion-dollared Anti Defamation League, and the Canadian Human Rights Commission will surely get right on the case by creating elaborate critiquing web pages to make sure that MTV/CBS/Westwood One-owning mega-billionaire Murray Rothstein gets 20 years in prison for frying this kid’s mind with violent, negative hip hop rap media.

Ex-reporter Jayson Blair now working as life coach

Jayson Blair knows his new profession — life coach — smacks some people in the face like a bad punchline.

“People say, ‘Wait a minute. You’re a life coach?’ That makes no sense,’” says Blair, the ex-journalist best known for foisting plagiarism and fabrications into the pages of The New York Times. “Then they think about my life experiences and what I’ve been through and they say ‘Wait a minute. It does make sense.’”

Blair, 33, resigned from the Times in 2003, leaving a journalistic scandal in his wake. The resulting furor led the paper’s top two newsroom executives to resign. Blair wrote a book, then mostly disappeared from view.

For the past two years, he has been quietly working as a certified life coach for one of the most respected mental health practices in northern Virginia.

“He can relate to patients just beautifully,” said Michael Oberschneider, the psychologist who hired Blair and urged him to become a life coach. “Sometimes you just meet people in life who have these electric personalities. Well, Jayson is now using his talents for good.” [SOURCE]

    WOW!

There’s so much that could be said about this…
